Conference Overview

This three-day conference consists of two parallel events. The first, a general Open Source GIS conference that focuses on various open source technologies and their implementations around the world, and second, the Second Annual MapServer User Meeting that focuses on the MapServer open source web mapping product, and continues the tradition of an annual user group meeting.

Each has unique seminars and workshops that share an underlying theme – the advancement of open source GIS technology. The Open Source GIS conference will provide an introduction to open source technologies, covering in detail both management and technical aspects, and the latest trends. The Second Annual MapServer User Meeting will focus on MapServer technology including user experiences, technical workshops, and discussions about future developments.

Open Source GIS Conference 2004

Both management issues and technical approaches will be highlighted in the Open Source GIS Conference.  The management seminars will concentrate on how open source technologies have been adopted and implemented into organizations of all sizes and with various organizational goals and objectives. The technical seminars and workshops will provide exciting opportunities to meet and hear from the technical leaders of the various open source projects around the world.

Second Annual MapServer User Meeting

The Ottawa MapServer User Group is pleased to host this year's annual MapServer User Meeting.  The first meeting, held in Minnesota in June 2003, was a huge success.  This year's meeting will continue the tradition by holding interesting workshops and sessions over a three-day period.  There will be great opportunities for networking and meeting fellow MapServer users at a Meet & Greet Exhibitor reception and also during a fun Boat Cruise on the Ottawa River.

Contributing to the Community

The Open Source community plays a very important role in the evolution of the GIS industry. The organizing committee is proud to announce that proceeds of the conference will be used to create an endowment scholarship fund dedicated to academic research and development of open source GIS technologies. A committee will be formed to evaluate applications and delegate funds. Conference sponsors will have an opportunity to participate in the evaluating committee.
